PGI Florina

The PGI Florina zone (est.2000) comprises the homonymous district in western Macedonia.
Since PDO Amynteo had been in effect in Florina’s homonymous area since 1972, the intention behind the establishment of PGI Florina had initially to apply it in part of the area and for white wines only. Florina’s potential, however, has always been remarkable and has led to the opening of numerous new wineries and the successful cultivation and vinification of many native and international cultivars. Thus, with the 2008 broad revision PGI Florina covered the entire district of Florina, with its many varieties and wine types. The revision was well received and, today, all of the 13 wineries in the district produce PGI Florina wines.
