Wine Route of Epirus
Wine tourism in Northern Greece begins with the Wine Route of Epirus, which is mostly located within the Ioannina District, where the vineyards of Zitsa and Metsovo produce PDO Zitsa, PGI Epirus, PGI Ioannina and PGI Metsovo wines.
In the beautiful city of Ioannina, next to Lake Pamvotis, visitors can see, among other things, the Archaeological Museum of Ioannina, the Byzantine Museum in the Castle and the Island of Ioannina, while visits may be made to the nearby Perama Cave, the Dodona archaeological site, the Theogefyro (Gods bridge) in Zitsa and the Paul Vrellis Greek History Museum. In charming Metsovo, it is worth visiting, among other things, the Averoff Museum of Neohellenic Art, Tositsa Museum and Aoos Springs Lake on a brief excursion. The Wine Route of Epirus offers interesting nature-loving and cultural dimensions with routes through the greater Ioannina area, including, for example, in Zagorochoria, with the Vikos Gorge, along which the Voidomatis River flows, and the numerous stone bridges or Konitsa and Pagoni, with the Aoos River, as well as Tzoumerka, with Plaka Bridge and the Anemotrypa (wind-hole) Cave.
