The Arvanitidis Estate was established in 1999, in Askos, Thessaloniki, by the agriculturist Thanasis Arvanitidis and his brother Giorgos. In the hilly area of Askos in Thessaloniki, at an altitude of 500-550 meters, a modern vineyard was planted. Areas were selected with a balanced content of sand, silt and clay, offering perfect conditions for limited plant growth. Orientation is to the southwest, ideal for the sun and heat of Greece, while during the summer a breeze blows upwards into the area from Lake Koronia, favorable for the ripening of the grapes. The presence of the wind also contributes to the reduced occurrence of diseases and keeping the fruit of the vine in good health, thus resulting in the totally successful application of the principles of organic farming.
Today, the private vineyards of the Arvanitidis Estate reach 8 hectars. Its varieties include the varieties chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah. In 2008 new sections were planted with malagouzia and xinomavro, which were to form the base of the estate’s next wines in 2008. The choice of varieties relates to the goal of creating “typical wines”, from particular vineyards producing recognised products, with a different personality.
The production of the Arvanitidis Estate wines takes place in the small, fully equipped building surrounded by trees and flowers in the family estate. The building has separate spaces for winemaking, capable of producing 50.000 bottles, and an area for the aging of the wines in oak barrels.
The Arvanitidis Estate produces 6 labels: Sorokos (80% Chardonnay-20% white Musc), Chardonnay, Chardonnay oak, Cabernet-Merlot (50%-50%), Merlot and Syrah, with the production of 2 more wines made of Greek varieties (malagouzia and xinomavro) to follow. Exports are made to Germany.
